Harlem Shake Nonsense

I'm sure many of you have seen all the videos going around of the "Harlem Shake." After all, they've been shown on countless morning shows, are streaming all over the Internet, and were most recently shown on ESPN when LeBron James a few other Miami Heat teammates got down in the locker room. In case you missed it, here it is...

But, let's be serious. As funny and entertaining as this is, one thing it ISN'T is the Harlem Shake. Melissa Harris-Perry, a host on MSNBC, set the record straight with her video and explanation of the REAL Harlem Shake. And, just in case she's not clear enough, stick around for the performance at the end... man, those guys can move!

So, hopefully this will put the confusion to rest, and stop all the wannabe videos... be creative and do your own thing!

Okay, and that's my rant for the day. Happy Wednesday! xoxo

    1. LOL! Jessica, it's just been bugging me because I was like "that's not the Harlem Shake!" Not to say I'm a professional dancer, nor can I even do it myself, but I know what it's supposed to look like! Melissa sure set the record straight!

  4. Wow thank you for posting this! So interesting, I had no idea, and I used to live in Harlem! I have seen little boys doing this on the subway though, she's right, it's amazing! Also interesting though, there was a story in the New York Post yesterday about a burger restaurant coming to Harlem that is capitalizing on the "new" Harlem Shake crazy, so I guess when it comes to making money some people don't care so much about the reality behind the dance! http://www.nypost.com/p/news/business/realestate/commercial/an_eatery_you_can_dance_to_F0nbdrRd7TcRzilgADcjWJ

  5. So you mean the video on Jude's FB page where all the kids are doing the "shake" in the famous "Tim's" bar at U of Dayton, isn't the REAl thing? Oh, man, I'm crushed!! I think all the fuss is hilarious. It's just a silly dance and people are having fun. The dance could be called the "Watusi" or "Cleveland Jump" or whatever, and people will try to replicate it and have fun and maybe get 10 seconds on TV. As for the Melissa Harris-Perry news...darn, I wanted to see them doing the real Harlem Shake to the same music though. Hard to compare apples to apples without the music. lol! Oh, and I think we should try a neighborhood "Hoodie Shake" while at Early Bird next month. Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

  6. I agree with you Tracy, and have to admit, the video on Jude's FB is hilarious. I just don't get why they're making such a huge fuss about it I guess. That's all, LOL! And yes, I'm down for doing a "Hoodie Shake" video... hopefully we make it to Early Bird, I can't believe it's that time already! YAY! Bring on the Brandy's! :o)
